What Are the Best AI Tools? (For SaaS Builders)
Lists with 50 tools are not useful. Here is the short version: one or two picks per category, with the criteria for picking.
Coding
- Daily driver: Cursor or GitHub Copilot
- Agentic refactors: Claude Code
- Architecture chat: Claude in browser
Writing
- Long-form: Claude with a brand-voice system prompt
- Marketing copy: Claude or Anyword
- Docs: Mintlify
Customer Service
- Deflection: Intercom Fin or Inkeep
- Triage: native Zendesk/Intercom AI
Analytics and Data
- Query and summarize: Hex, Julius, or in-product Claude
- Dashboards: existing BI tools with AI add-ons (Hex, Looker, Mode)
Productivity
- Notes and search: Notion AI, Mem
- Email triage: Superhuman AI
- Meeting notes: Granola or Fathom
How to Pick (When This Shortlist Does Not Match)
- Look at your weekly time sink. The AI tool that compresses that, even 30%, beats a tool that automates something you do twice a year.
- Prefer tools that integrate with what you already use. The switching cost of changing your IDE or ticket system is more than the AI lift you get.
- Default to the biggest provider (Anthropic, OpenAI) unless a specialized tool clearly outperforms.
What to Skip
- One-click "AI SEO content" generators. Output is detectable.
- Tools that promise to replace a whole role. Replacing a role takes a workflow, not a tool.
- Anything still in private beta unless you have a specific use case it solves.
What to Do Next
Pick one tool from the highest-leverage category for your week. Two-week trial. Measure the time delta. Expand from there. Adoption beats breadth.
