Is Niche Scoring for AI SaaS Actually Worth It

When It Is Worth It
- You have a capability and no clear customer.
- You have switched niches once already.
- You are about to commit contractor budget.
- Your candidates feel equally exciting.
When It Is Not
- You have warm distribution in a niche already.
- A customer has prepaid.
- You are pre-scoring out of avoidance, not decision.
The Honest Verdict
Fifteen minutes for a decision worth thousands of dollars in build cost. Yes if you would otherwise pick by capability or interest. No if you are using it to delay the build.
The Test
If you finish the score and immediately move to interviews, it was worth it. If you finish and start a second spreadsheet, it was not.
